By main activities the net nominal monthly earnings were over the average in 2004 in education (RON 648, monthly per employee), transports, distribution and communications (RON 792), public administration and defence (RON 845), and in financial intermediation (RON 1562).

Gross average earning was RON 1,121 in December 2005. Net average earning was RON 848, by 9.6% more than in the previous month.

Gross average earning was RON 1,109 in May 2006. Net average earning was RON 833 lei, by 0.7% lower than in the previous month.

In September 2006, gross nominal average earning was RON 1,148, by 2.3% more than in the previous month.

Net nominal average earning was RON 860, increasing as against the previous month by RON 19 (+2.3%).

The highest values of net nominal average earning were registered in the activities of financial intermediation (RON 2,297) and the lowest ones in wood and wood products processing, except furniture (RON 523).

Real earning index for September 2006 as against the previous month, calculated as ratio between net nominal earning index and consumer price index was 102.2%.

September 2006 in comparison with August 2006

Increases of net average earning, in September 2006 as against the previous month, were registered in the budgetary sector (general government, education, health and social assistance) as a result of implementing the stipulations of the Ordinance no. 3/2006 regarding salary increases in 2006, the second stage (by 6% beginning with September 1,2006).

By various economic sectors, increases of net average earning, in September 2006 as against the previous month, were mainly determined by granting bonuses or achieving higher productions, as follows:

Decreases as against the previous month of net nominal average earning in some activities were mainly determined by granting bonuses in the previous month or achieving lower productions.

Net average earning decrease by 15.3% in mining and by 6.2% in insurance activity.

Decreases between 1% and 5% were registered in the activities: other transport means, mail and courier, related or ancillary transport activities, electric and thermal energy, gas and water production and supply, tobacco productions, water collection, purification and distribution, pulp, paper and paper products, medical, precision, optical and photo apparatus and instruments, other products of non-metallic minerals, air transport, post and telecommunications, machinery and equipment, textile products, financial intermediation.

September 2006 as compared to September 2005

In comparison with September 2005, net nominal average earning increased by 16.8%.

Real earning index as against the same period of the previous year registered a growth by 10.7%.

In comparison with October 1990, real earning index was 93.1%, by 2 percentage points more than in August 2006.

Real earning index for October 2006, calculated as ratio between net nominal average earning index and consumer price index was 100.5% as against the previous month, 111.4% as against the same month of 2005, respectively 93.5% in comparison with October 1990.
